TO Lose My Life is the debut album from London-based gloom merchants White Lies.
Relatively new on the scene the post punk three-piece have been compared to many bands including Joy Division, Duran Duran and Arcade Fire.
The album, produced by Ed Buller and Max Dingel, who have previously worked with The Killers and Glasvegas, has a definite morbid feel about it.
Even ignoring that the first song is called Death, it barely goes a minute without some reference to the afterlife or dying.
It’s a shame that so little hype has followed this release because it's actually a breath of fresh air to see a band embracing the dark side and showing clearly what and who their influences are.
A lot of new artists have seen bad times coming and gone down the “let’s party and forget our troubles” route.
White Lies have definitely not.
Stand out tracks include the organ funeral tinged Unfinished Business, Death, To Lose My Life and From The Stars.
If you like Duran Duran, Interpol, any Tim Burton film, and throbbing bass lines that can move a house, then give it a try.
Dark music for a dark, uncertain era.
