ADAM Sandler stars as Zohan, an Israeli intelligence operative who is a master with weapons and hand-to-hand combat, but all he really wants to do is cut hair in New York City.
So he fakes his death and reinvents himself as a hairdresser while at the same time routinely providing sexual favours for his older female customers.
All is going well until he is recognised by a taxi driver who tells Zohan’s arch enemy and Palestinian the Phantom (John Turturro) who shows up in Manhattan to finish him off for good.
What actually happens is a Big Apple version of the resolution of Israeli/ Palestinian conflicts the world would like to see.
Basically this film is typical Sandler – ie. just not funny.
I’m as big a fan of the silly or slightly moronic films as the next person, but this was just ridiculous from start to finish and became quite pointless.
The only good thing about it, and which can be seen in a lot of Adam Sandler films, is that is has a good message.
However, when you're trying to present a heartfelt message on top of a blatantly stupid film, there’s a good chance you're going to be ignored.
