CD - Romance at Short Notice - Dirty Pretty Things

12:21pm Monday 21st July 2008

ROMANCE at Short Notice is the second album from Brit punk guitar outfit Dirty Pretty Things, who were formed from the remains of The Libertines.

Their first album hit the ground running, but this second effort seems listless and rambling.

At its best it's reminiscent of 60s guitar bands with echoes of The Move's Blackberry Way emerging in Plastic Hearts, but for the most part it's generic clangy guitars and the sort of music that begs to be described as "just noise" even at the risk of sounding like an old man at a party.

Despite an overall spread of enjoyable if background tracks and a few stand outs like Come Closer, Plastic Hearts and Truth Begins, Dirty Pretty Things seem to be losing momentum.

From the heady heights of The Libertines, where they exerted so much influence over the modern British music scene, Dirty Pretty Things seem to be getting lost in the crowd and struggling to keep up.
