CD - All Or Nothing - The Subways

10:26am Monday 14th July 2008

ALL Or Nothing is the long-awaited follow up to 2005's Young For Eternity, from the grunge-inspired Brit three-piece The Subways.

The album saw the band, led by Billy Lunn and female sidekick Charlotte Cooper, decamp to LA to work with super-producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins), who gave the band a more beefy and grown up sound.

The result is a definite progression from the garage/punk feel of their debut and sees them absorbing a number of different influences.

And while it does have an inevitable American flavour to it, it is definitely not emo which is the way a lot of Brit bands seem to be heading.

In short, the album is full of brilliant rock songs and has some real moments of inspiration, particularly in some well-executed harmonies and double vocals between former lovers Lunn and Cooper.

Stand out tracks include the singles Alright and the download-only Girls and Boys as well as Always Tomorrow and album closer Lost Boy.
