EVERYONE'S favourite actor, Will Smith, stars as Robert Neville, a lone human survivor in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by hairless, flesh-eating, mutants.

Neville, a military scientist charged with finding a cure for the virus that created the bloodsucking fiends, spends his days roaming a desolated New York and his nights hiding with his dog in his house.

With his natural immunity to the virus keeping him alive, he continues to conduct experiments in a ceaseless quest to conquer the disease.

The film, which is the third adaptation of Richard Mathson's novel, strays a little from the book but manages to retain the feeling of one man, alone, trying to maintain his sanity and hopelessly searching for a cure.

And Smith does this brilliantly. No one can deny his talent and charisma as a leading man.

He manages to carry the film single-handedly and does a great job of it.

One of the best parts, apart from seeing the desolate and abandoned city, is Smith interacting with mannequins he's placed in a music shop which is funny yet very disturbing at the same time.

Not so brilliant however, are the CGI mutants who look like a cross between the robots from I robot, which also starred Smith, and Gollum from Lord Of The Rings on speed. They just don't come across as realistic.

It's a shame because this is the only thing that lets the film down. It would have looked much better having actors play the parts like in films such as 28 Days Later or Dawn of the Dead.

Overall though, this a great film.
