You’ve probably stumbled across her column in Grazia or seen lipglosses and nail varnishes sporting her signature in Superdrug, but do you ACTUALLY know who Tanya Burr is?

As one of the interweb’s newest breed of YouTube celebrities, she’s adored by many but completely anonymous to others. Tanya’s debut book, Love, Tanya, launches tomorrow, and it’s already sitting at number ten in Amazon’s Bestsellers list.

Here’s everything you need to know about YouTube’s newest author.

She wasn’t born into stardom.

Tanya was born in Norwich, and developed a keen interest in makeup in early adulthood. When she finished school, Tanya completed a short course in makeup and went on to work on a string of different makeup counters.

She’s been making YouTube videos for over five years.

Tanya was dating the brother of established YouTube beauty sisters PixiWoo, who urged her to create her own channel. She took their advice in October 2009, creating a channel called Pixi2woo. We bet she’s pretty pleased she heeded their advice, as Tanya now has over 2.7 million subscribers and more than 186,000,000 total video views.

Her first video was a Serena Van Der Woodsen inspired makeup tutorial:

Over the years, Tanya’s YouTube content expanded to include beauty, fashion and baking videos, as well as collaboration videos with other YouTubers.

Including, of course, internet sensation and BFFL Zoella.

Her growing audience on YouTube led to sponsorship deals with big brands and the mainstream media started to pay attention to Tanya and her YouTube pals.

First brands like Illamasqua and Clasisonic sent her PR samples in the hope she might mention them in a video. As YouTube grew as a platform, big brands started paying attention and involving content creators like Tanya in their campaigns. Including her own line with Very.co.uk:

Oh, and not to mention Mulberry. Who gave Tan and her fiancé Jim free bags, naturally. We’re not jealous. At all. Maybe a little bit.

Oops, we forgot to talk about Jim Chapman.

He’s Tanya’s boyf of eight years, who also runs his own YouTube channel. You might recognise him from ITV2′s Viral tap. Or you might have seen him on GQ’s Best Dressed Men list. Or you might have seen him in your dreams.

Over the last few years, Tanya’s become a regular at London Fashion Week.

Where she’s sat in the front row for Topshop, Mulberry and Burberry.

She’s signed to the UK’s most exclusive YouTube talent agency, Gleam Futures.

The agency also boasts Jim Chapman, best mate Zoella, her brother Joe Sugg, his housemate Caspar Lee, Zoella’s boyfriend Alfie Deyes and super-beautiful couple Niomi Smart and Marcus Butler.

This lot do a lot of things together.

They work together (appearing in one another’s videos to boost viewing figures), holiday together and they also go to big YouTube conventions like Digifest and Summer in the City together. Last year Tanya and her closest YouTube chums launched Amity Fest, their touring show/meet and greet convention where fans could pay £22.50 to be in the same room as their idols or £75.00 to actually briefly meet them. Internet fame evidently pays pretty well these days.

But Tanya’s not stopping there. Her first book, Love Tanya, will be available from 29th January.

Love, Tanya, is a collection of tips on fashion, beauty, love, friendship and YouTube. It seems Tan’s fans are already pretty stoked about it.

Like her mate Zoe Sugg, Tanya used a ghost writer’s help.

Uh-oh, surely we’re not in for another Zoella-gate ALREADY?! Actually no, as Tanya was always pretty honest about using a ghost writer’s assistance. In a blog post on tanyaburr.co.uk, Tanya admitted: “Penguin hired an amazing writer, Georgina Rodgers, to help me. Although I wanted to write the whole book myself, I knew it wasn’t realistic with the time scale we had to work to.” Fair enough.

Love, Tanya is currently at number ten on the Amazon Best Sellers list.

That’s only five places above Zoella’s Girl Online and 34 places above Alfie Deyes’ Pointless Book. Ooh, scandalous.

Anyway, that’s the lowdown on who this YouTube lady is and why there’s a big old fuss about her new book. Will it continue to sit in the Amazon Bestsellers top ten or will it flop into obscurity? We’ll just have to wait and see.
