Natural way to a better holiday experience

KELLING Heath Holiday Park, in North Norfolk, has continued to make significant investment in its on-park facilities to ensure that visitors in 2010 enjoy an even better holiday experience.

The award-winning park, which last year celebrated its 25th anniversary under the ownership of the Timewell family, has earned a reputation as one of the UK’s leading holiday parks combining quality and value for money with a genuine commitment to the environment and sustainable tourism.

Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the north Norfolk coastline, Kelling Heath is set in 250 acres of woodland and rare open heathland and is the ideal holiday destination for short breaks or longer stays. Kelling Heath offers a wide range of facilities, environmental activities and entertainment for all the family.

This year 50 percent of the holiday homes in the popular Heron range have been replaced and six of its Woodland Lodges have undergone a complete refurbishment, which includes interior design, furnishings, fixtures and fittings. Also available to hire is a holiday home for those with limited mobility, designed with easy access and excellent facilities for wheelchair users.

Kelling Heath has created a further six fully-serviced touring pitches and a quantity of extra large pitches supplementing the pitches successfully introduced in 2009.

In creating the pitches, additional landscaping has been carried out enhancing the natural environment, with wildlife corridors created in between the rows rather than back to back pitches. Unlike the pitches created in 2009 these new pitches are in the ‘dog’ friendly area, extending the choice on offer to touring customers with four-legged friends.

Touring guests will also find an amenity building that boasts three environmentally friendly features; rainwater harvesting, solar water heating, and ground source air exchange.

Excellent customer service and ease of accessing tourist information are vital components of any trip and 2010 will see work start on a new and improved Reception and Guest Services area.

The striking design will overlook and compliment the Village Square and see a larger more user-friendly reception guest’s services area.

Whilst online bookings are increasing year on year, Kelling Heath recognises the importance of handling incoming calls and reservations and as a first stage of this development a new six-desk call centre has already been completed.

Visitors to Kelling Heath are spoilt for choice when it comes to activities, events, and things to see and do.

Everything from cycle routes and woodland walks through the spectacular countryside, to a whole range of organised events through the ‘Acorn Events’ programme which features activities linked to Kelling Heath’s natural environment with events such as dawn chorus, bat and moth walks, pond dipping and much more available.

Kelling is also offering an exciting range of breaks. These include a Health, Mind & Spirit Mid Week Break, in May; Triathlon Breaks, in May and October; the Cycle Challenge Weekend, in June; and a Beer Festival and Retro Weekend, in July. Kelling will also host its poplar annual star-gazing weekend in September, which attracts visitors from all over the country and is Europe’s largest star party.

Ideal for couples and families, Kelling Heath offers an outdoor swimming pool, which is available to guests free of charge, while for those wanting exercise or pampering a range of membership options are available at the Health & Fitness Club. Enjoy a workout in the well-equipped gymnasium or just relax in the indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms. Guests can also enjoy two outdoor tennis courts, table tennis and petanque.

If you enjoy fine dining, then Woods Restaurant is a must. Opened last year, Woods is renowned for its locally sourced food, imaginative menus and excellent customer service. For a more relaxed fayre, try the Forge and Terrace Bars and Bracken’s Cafe & Pizzeria, open for pub food and light bites.

In celebration of 25 years of ownership by the Timewell family, 2010 will see the unveiling of a commissioned sculpture on the Village Green. Created by local artist Nora Gaston, it reflects the park's commitment to the environment and is sure to be a talking point among guests and a fascinating focal point.

A new tree trail will be launched, which will see 25 trees, one for each year of the Timewell’s ownership, planted or featured around the park. A self-guided leaflet will be available to interpret the trail.

Last year, for the 13th year running, Kelling Heath received the David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award, demonstrating an active working commitment to the natural environment.

Professor Bellamy said: “The award recognises that Kelling Heath’s environmental work is truly innovative and something of which they can be rightly proud. Congratulations to all the staff for their hard work and their ongoing commitment.”

Short breaks over weekends or midweek and weekly rates are available and Kelling Heath is open from 12th February to 12th December 2010. Weekly rates in a three-bed woodland lodge start from £614 and for a luxury holiday home rates start from £249 for a seven-day break.

For touring caravans and tents, serviced pitches start from £120.75 per week, which includes one car per pitch. Extra charges apply for awnings, dogs and extra cars.
