Despite their endless assertions that it's "just an honour to be nominated...", you just know that deep down, those po-faced stars are aching to end up with a glitzy statuette to take home.

But if a gong's out of reach, every actress and singer (not to mention assorted plus-ones and other celeb attendees) can at least hope their outfit's a winner, and escape those dreaded worst dressed lists.

Now that the Big Five awards dos are done with, it's time to look back at the frocks that rocked, and - more importantly - whose gown game we can copy when the dress code next calls for it.

From Emma Stone's kooky colour choice at the Oscars to Paloma Faith's petal-strewn Brits appearance, all hail 2015's red carpet fashion champions...

EMMA STEALS THE LIMELIGHT AT THE OSCARS

The looming of the Fashion Police (no, really, it's an actual TV show in America) means that most celebs play it very, very safe on the red carpet, in black, red or sparkly dresses.

Emma Stone, however, chose an intricately beaded Elie Saab gown for the Oscars, with matching shoes, in that trickiest of hues, chartreuse.

Emulate the Birdman star's lime look with the Royina Maxi Dress from Coast, and Office's super-sharp Poison stilettos.

The dress features a delicate lace bodice and a cut-out back, so pull your hair into an updo to show off the detailing.

The 65-year-old chose a long-sleeved sequin dress from Adrianna Papell, and the great news is you can get the exact same one, because the brand is stocked by John Lewis and Amazon.

Stack a couple of sparkly bracelets or bangles on your wrists and add vintage-style drop earrings, to up the glam factor a la Walters.

House of CB does an equally glitzy dressing-gown-meets-formal-frock in shimmering champagne gold chiffon, with sheer sleeves and a centre split.

Gathered at the hips, the Blanca is flattering on fuller figures, and the neutral colour means you can add a metallic belt like Kim's, or switch it up with bright heels for a more summery feel.

But every so often, a starlet picks a piece that's not just pretty but a la mode too, and this year it was Jennifer Aniston, with her black Saint Laurent dress hinting at the Seventies and oriental trends, thanks to its halter-neck design and obi belt.

The Addison dress from VLabel London cuts a similar silhouette in inky blue, and it also happens to be a major bargain, currently reduced to almost half price.

Keep accessories sleek and simple like Jen's - chandelier earrings and strappy sandals are all you need.

:: VLabel London Addison Dress, reduced to £36 from £68 (www.vlabellondon.com) :: Florence Chandelier Earrings, £10 (www.accessorize.com) PALOMA'S A HIT AT THE BRITS Between posing for the paps, performing and scooping Best British Female Solo Artist, Paloma Faith showed off no less than three different outfits at the Brits, all of them gorgeously gothic.

Our favourite? It has to be the tulle and sequin-drenched Armani couture number she wore on arrival.

Such a frothy confection might be a bit much in the real world, but Pearce II Fionda's appliqued prom dress is a more wearable option.

Pair it with patent courts and a clutch now, or gold sandals come summer.

:: Pearce II Fionda Dolce Vita Prom Dress, £165 (available in store only; Debenhams) :: Head Over Heels Audrine Pointed Court Shoe, £39 (www.houseoffraser.co.uk) GET THE LOOK Monochrome as a trend doesn't sound very inspiring, does it? Givenchy's uber-cool leather jacket, on the other hand, makes a very good case for all things black and white, even if it will set you back a few thousand pounds. Decidedly more accessible is Very's dead ringer Monochrome Eyelet Jacket, £49, available March 19 (www.very.co.uk).

BUY IT NOW The ever popular Orla Kiely collaboration is back at Clarks for the third season, this time channelling an on-trend Seventies vibe. Try the Orla Bibi in pink, £120, a pretty but comfy Mary Jane that will still appeal when we finally reach that glorious time of the year when tights are banished for good (www.clarks.co.uk).

FASHION FLASH :: GUESSING GOWNS Are the Oscars becoming too predictable? In terms of fashion, it certainly looks that way. Bookies Paddy Power predicted the best actress winner would be Julianne Moore (it was), and that she'd wear green or white (she did - white). They even picked the dress designer (Chanel) in their top four guesses. There's no denying Moore looked beautiful, but wouldn't it be great if next year, one of the big name stars took a chance on an emerging designer?

:: MATERIAL MATTERS No need to wait for dress-down Friday to wear jeans to the office any more. According to a new survey from Burton, 66% of men think wearing denim to work is more acceptable than it was five years ago. Slim-cut dark wash jeans are considered the most office-appropriate (73%), while the top denim don't is, you guessed it, double denim.

:: STYLE STEAL Has perusing pictures of stars in their custom-made creations got you daydreaming about designer finery for yourself? Well, you can make that dream come true (without having to remortgage your house), thanks to a new luxury rental site. Launched in the UK last year, Chic-by-Choice offers occasion wear from high-end brands like Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Marchesa Notte. Prices start from £50 for a four-day rental, and they'll send two dresses to try, so you can ensure a perfect fit. The Marchesa Notte Purple Lace Gown retails at £845, but can be yours - to rent - from £126 (www.chic-by-choice.com).
